Toronto, ON | October 4–5, 2025 — Innovation, collaboration, and open-data science came together under one roof at Centennial College’s Bombardier Centre for Aerospace and Aviation, as Toronto proudly hosted the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2025. The event united innovators, students, professionals, and space enthusiasts to solve real-world problems powered by NASA’s open data. 

Toronto Joins NASA’s Global Innovation Network 

As part of NASA’s global Earth Science Division program in collaboration with Booz Allen  Hamilton, Mindgrub, and SecondMuse. Toronto’s edition of Space Apps was a 48-hour hybrid  hackathon blending creativity and science.

NASA Space Apps Toronto — recognized as the largest registered NASA Space Apps event in  Canada. 

Organized by WebTegy Inc., under the leadership of Local Lead Sayooran Nagulendra, this  event showcased exceptional coordination among partners, mentors, and participants. It fostered a dynamic spirit of collaboration and creativity, supported by community partners and hosting organizations who contributed to the event’s remarkable success.

These figures highlight the scale and global reach of the NASA International Space Apps Challenge, demonstrating its impact as a catalyst for innovation and community-driven problem-solving across the world. 

Participants collaborated both in person and online to design practical solutions addressing climate change, planetary science, and space exploration. The event kicked off with inspiring remarks from NASA’s global Space Apps team, followed by technical workshops introducing  NASA’s open-data platforms. 

Teams quickly formed across disciplined students, developers, engineers, and designers working side by side to code, test, and pitch their groundbreaking ideas. Projects were judged on creativity, scientific relevance, data integration, and real-world impact. Winning teams advanced to NASA’s Global Awards round.

1. Diversity & Inclusion 

Participants represented a diverse mix of students, professionals, and hobbyists from multiple STEM backgrounds, reflecting Toronto’s multicultural innovation landscape. 

2. Workshops & Keynotes 

Technical deep dives explored NASA’s data portals, Earth-observation systems, and open-source analytical tools—empowering participants to think globally while building locally.

Teams worked around the clock, merging creativity with computational power to design feasible, high-impact prototypes.

Industry experts and academic mentors guided participants, offering feedback that transformed raw concepts into polished projects ready for NASA’s global stage.

Community Impact: Toronto’s Role in a Global Movement 

Building on last year’s record-breaking turnout of 300+ participants—the largest in Canada— the 2025 Toronto edition reaffirmed the city’s growing influence in global open-data collaboration. It connected local innovators to 30,000+ participants across 160 countries, showcasing how Canadian talent contributes to worldwide space research.
